Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) seems to be everywhere these days, from your smart fridge, to your smart phone, and every device in between. But how does it actually work, and how can it be utilized by teachers and learners of English?

Xavier Anguera has over 20 years of experience in speech and signal processing technologies, has published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers, and holds multiple patents in the areas of multimedia, machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence. He is also the CTO and co-founder of ELSA, the English Language Speech Assistant.


Paul Raine is the founder and developer of ZenGengo, an online platform for teaching and learning languages which features ten assignment types for practicing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. He is also an English teacher at universities in Japan.


Jon Gorham is an associate professor at a university in Japan and the creator of the Education Solutions, an EdTech professional development YouTube channel dedicated to helping educators worldwide embrace educational technology in online classrooms as well as face-to-face classrooms.
